Heritage splits its volleyball matches, starts district play

Following an open date last Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Harper High School varsity volleyball team roared back into action Friday evening, besting Medina on the road in the first three games of the match.

The Ladyhorns (14-11, 4-0) will continue their District 14-2A play Friday when they host Utopia on Homecoming night. The match will start at 5 p.m. while the school’s junior varsity squads will play at 4 p.m.

Results from last night’s home league contest with Rocksprings were not known by this week’s press deadline.

Medina on the road

Harper kept its grip on the district’s number one position by defeating Medina on the Bobcats’ home court Friday in three games — 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.

Marti Lumpkins led Harper in the assists category with 10 while Trista Lewis was tops in kills with nine. Lumpkins also led her team in service aces by knocking down four non-returnable serves.

As a team, the Ladyhorns recorded 24 digs with Lewis and Mercy Garcia accounting for six apiece.
