Heritage football topped by Bracken

Although it scored the game’s first touchdown — that being a Josh Hoermann pass to Lane Sawtelle that covered 34 yards — it was host Bulverde Bracken Christian School that dominated the remainder of the contest to beat the Eagles, 64-16.

The game was ended near the end of the third period when Bracken’s Presley Day scored on a 19-yard run to the endzone, giving his team the win via the 45-point “mercy” rule.

Heritage (7-2, 1-1) will close out the regular season at home this Friday when the Spring Branch Living Rock Academy Bobcats come to town.

Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Due to last week’s loss to Bracken, the Eagles dropped from fourth place to fifth in the weekly TAPPS Division 1A ranking as determined by sixmanfootball.com.

Josh Hoermann got the visiting Heritage Eagles off to a good start in Friday’s sixman football game at Bulverde Bracken Christian School.

But his pass to Lane Sawtelle, who turned the play into a 34-yard touchdown, put Heritage up 6-0 in the opening stanza. Hoermann also tacked on the two-point conversion kick.

But that proved to be just about the only punch Heritage had in its arsenal that evening when Bracken reeled off four consecutive touchdowns to take a 28-8 lead.

The four-tally onslaught began when Presley Day and Hunter Stirm ran for touchdowns of 13 and 36 yards, respectively, followed by a Travis Wolf pass to Day which covered 37 yards, putting Bracken up 22-8.

The Warriors then registered their fourth unanswered TD when, midway through the second period, Stirm reeled in a 30-yard aerial from Wolf, putting the hosts ahead, 28-8.

Wolf was the Warriors’ leading passer, connecting on seven of 11 passes for 226 yards.
