Nine members of the 2016 varsity six-man football team from Heritage School recently earned TAPPS Division II honors in a variety of categories.
The three players named to the all-state team were seniors Jacob Huser (first team, defensive back; second team, running back) and Parker Given (first team, defensive lineman). Eleventh grader True Stephens was also placed on the all-state listing as an honorable mention center.
In addition to the aforementioned all-state and all-district honors recipients, six of the student/athletes were also named to the Academic All-State list. Those players are as follows: Seniors — Jacob Huser, Parker Given and Blake Ashley, and juniors — Dillon Roberts, True Stephens and Lane Sawtelle.
"It is always pleasing and exciting to see these young men awarded for their work," said Heritage head football coach Tim Shipman. "I am proud of each one of them. These awards are well-deserved. The unspoken character of these young men is that without hesitation each one of them would credit their team for their success."
The Heritage Eagles advanced to the state TAPPS Division III quarterfinal round before losing to Baytown Christian by a thin 43-42 margin.
