Harper volleyball starts season with bracket title
For a team that's so loaded with talent, the beginning of the 2018 campaign has to be filled with frustration for the Harper Ladyhorns' varsity volleyball squad.
After dropping it's first match of the season — a 3-0 decisions at Johnson City on Aug. 6 — HHS (3-4) found itself behind the 8-ball after losing all three matches it played Friday in the Wimberley tournament.
However, the Ladyhorns didn't fold, but, instead, put in a stellar performance by defeating all three of its Saturday opponents, including Caddo Mills in the bronze bracket title match (25-23 and 25-21).
Harper dropped Friday's matches by scores to Laredo United (25-13, 25-8), Blanco (25-17, 25-14), and Hardin (23-25, 25-18, 25-23).
But that was Friday.
The Ladyhorns were able to turn things around in the Saturday part of the action when Harper won the three matches it played, earning the Bronze championship along the way.
After downing Burnet, 25-22 and 25-13, in the day's first competition, the Ladyhorns continued their masterful play by taking the best of Hardin, 25-23 and 25-21.
Harper managed to capture the third match of the day, slipping past Caddo Mills to earn the bronze bracket championship.
During the title run on the second day, the Ladyhorns put in a 60-for-60 display from the service line. Jayd Esquell put in the best record in that category with a 22-for-22 effort.
