Harper takes second place in Sonora boys' tournament

Harper's varsity boys’ basketball team had a successful run at last week's tournament at Sonora, winning two of three games for a second-place finish.

After topping Reagan County 49-47 in overtime on Thursday morning, the Longhorns returned to the court later in the day but ended up on the short end of a 30-25 score to Sonora. Harper closed out its tournament stint Friday by smashing Eldorado 57-12.

A pair of HHS players — Carson McKnight and Josh Sagraves — were named to the all-tournament team. McKnight netted a total of 53 points in Harper's three games while Sagraves tallied 45.

One game remains for the Longhorns on the pre-Christmas schedule when Harper hosts Brady on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. encounter. The two schools' junior varsity squads will meet at 2 p.m.

Results from last night's home contest with Miles were not known by this week's press deadline.
