It was a successful day of track and field competition for Harper as its various squads earned nine first places finishes at Wednesday's Pirate Invitational meet held at Center Point High School.
On the girls’ side, Harper's varsity 4x400-meter relay team — made up of Quinn Stevenson, Caroline Bacon, Rebekah Stracke, and Whitney Spaeth — grabbed the gold medal with a time of 4:20.18.
They finished second in the overall meet standings.
Delanie Dunning picked up gold in the pole vault after reaching a height of 8 feet 6 inches.
In girls’ JV competition, Harper won the top spot in two events — 3,200-meter run (Eve Williams, 14.32.02) and triple jump (Emily Freitag, 26 feet 7 inches).
The JV girls earned third place in the standings.
Meanwhile, the boys’ junior varsity squad earned a pair of gold medals. Shelby Rains took the top position in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet 3 inches. In addition, the triple jump gold medal went to Keegan Iturriza with a distance of 36 feet 11.25 inches.
For the varsity boys, Sean Baethge won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.15. Then, the 4x100-meter relay squad finished in the top position with a time of 44.63. Those runners were Carson Sivells, Baethge, Dylan Sivells, Jordan Rodriguez and alternate Bryceson Elliott.

The varsity boys ended up in second place while the JVs took fourth.
Next up for the Longhorns is tomorrow's District 27-2A championship meet, slated for Harper. From there, the Area 27/28 championships slated for April 16 at Rice Consolidated High School in Altair.
