Harper boys basketball tourney won by Comfort

Comfort High School went through the boys’ division of the Harper Basketball Tournament unscathed, registering a 3-0 in winning the annual holiday multi-school action over the weekend.

The host Longhorns tied with the tournament’s other two teams with identical 1-2 records.

Harper opened action Thursday morning by losing to Comfort, 62-23. In that game, HHS player Layne Holmes netted seven points and three steals.

From there, the ‘Horns squeezed by Boerne Geneva 30-29 on the strength of a Brett Dunning floater from the lane with less than two seconds remaining in the contest.

Dunning scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Holmes contributed another nine points to the Harper cause.

The Longhorns’ drama continued into Saturday when Boerne Geneva came up with a 42-40 victory.
