Gillespie Race Meet on track for weekend

Only two more days of live pari-mutuel horse racing remain on the 2016 schedule at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds following this past weekend’s Gillespie County Race Meet.

The 2016 racing season at the local Class III track will close on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27-28, as part of the 128th Gillespie County Fair, which takes place Aug. 25-28.

Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the two-day Gillespie County Race Meet drew 2,997 racing fans who wagered $244,564 on 21 races.

The total payout to bettors was $191,374.

On Saturday, 1,543 fans wagered $119,936 on 11 races while on Sunday, 1,454 fans wagered $124,628 on 10 races.

The payout on Saturday was $93,867 and on Sunday totaled $97,507.
