FHS XC wins varsity boys' division in San Saba meet

Fredericksburg High School cross country dominated its season opening meet.

The Billies finished in the top three of all four divisions of the San Saba Cross Country meet on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at San Saba.

FHS won the varsity boys’ division with the red team, and the white finished third.

Varsity girls earned third place.

Junior varsity boys’ and girls’ both finished second in their respective divisions.

“It was a good start to the season as we survived the very hot race day temps of 100 degrees during our afternoon races,” FHS head cross country coach Dan Aldrich said. “We have been training two days a week in the afternoon to help prepare for the hot days we were expecting and those trainings paid off.”

“Although our kids overheated quickly and ran slower than we hoped for, it was the same for all teams at the meet, and we handled it better than most.”

Next is a meet in Mason today, Sept. 5.
