FHS spikers struggle in Boerne tourney

Feeling the pressure and change of a new season and a new team, the Fredericksburg High School volleyball team went 1-5 over the weekend at the Boerne High School tournament.

The Billies suffered losses to South San Antonio, San Antonio Christian, Blanco and district-foes Boerne and Bandera.

FHS beat Kerrivlle Tivy in tournament play.

With the tournament, the Billies are now 6-10 in the season and have more losses than they had all season in 2017.

“The tournament this weekend did not go very well for us,” head coach Kaci Rittimann said. “We did some great things but we had too many errors to bring home some wins.”

Rittimann said at the start of the season the biggest area of weakness for the team was receiving serves, but she saw improvement after another week of practices.

“We serve received very well and played good defense on Saturday,” Rittimann said. “I thought we brought the energy Saturday against Tivy despite the girls being pretty fatigued.”

With two tournaments under their belts, the Billies will have experience as they head into district play against Boerne and Bandera.

“I think it benefited us to se what level they (Boerne and Bandera) were at so we know what to expect,” she said.
