BILLIES VOLLEYBALL

Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball finds itself in a three-way tie for third place in District 28-4A standings.

This past week, the Billies beat Bandera, 3-2, but lost to Wimberley, 3-1.

Wimberley is in a tie for first place with FHS rival Boerne, who the Billies faced late Tuesday, Oct. 22.

FHS head coach Jason Roemer said the team will have to play more consistently to get a spot in the playoffs.

“It’s right there for the taking, we will have to be ready to play,” Roemer said. “We continue to talk about playing well enough in the early sets to give us a chance in the later sets.”

FHS has three more matches to play, facing Boerne, Canyon Lake (Oct. 25) and Llano (Oct. 29).

Results from the final three district matches will be included in the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post Daily Update and in next week’s edition.

FHS lost their fourth District 28-4A game to Wimberley on Friday, Oct. 18.

Roemer said the team came out flat at the start which carried through the match.

“We just came out flat and didn’t dictate play or be the aggressor,” he said. “We played well in set two with 10 kills and four errors but couldn’t finish.”

The Billies notched 26 kills and 26 errors overall.

“We again proved that we can play with any team in the district and beat any team, we just have to play at a championship level for sustained amounts of time,” Roemer said. “Wimberley is good defensively and anything we threw at them, they dug. We matched them at times but they finished with 90 digs to our 82.”
