FHS looks for rebound vs. Austin Travis
Getting ready to face off against a quick Austin Travis team, Fredericksburg High School Battlin’ Billies varsity football looks for a win on Friday night.
Kickoff for the non-district game is set for 7:30 p.m. at FHS Stadium.
The Billies come off of a 33-12 road loss to Lampasas while the Rebels were defeated, 61-21, at home by Seguin last Friday.
FHS head coach Lance Moffett said the Billies look to combat their opponent’s dangerous tendencies.
“They’re a very talented team, they’ve got guys that can go,” Moffett said. “They do a good job coaching and get better every week. They’re extremely dangerous and talented.”
Rebel senior quarterback Breonn Watson, a 5’9” slender three-year starter who can run the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds, is a threat for the Billies, alongside big linebackers and fast receivers.
“They’re pretty big up front and on both sides of the ball,” Moffett said. “You prepare for their scheme and spread offense and probably look for two defenses: odd and even fronts.”
Speed is another factor to overcome, Moffett added, saying they’ve been making tweaks in practice to account for the speed.
Although the Billies have won the last two matches against the Rebels, 46-28 last year and 48-35 the year before, their quick opponent must constantly be monitored.
