FHS girls' hoops fight for second place

With one district game left, the Fredericksburg High School varsity girls’ basketball holds second place in the District 28-4A race.

The Billies suffered a tough loss Friday, Feb. 2 to first-place Canyon Lake, 49-38.

With the loss, the Billies must earn a win against Boerne on Tuesday, Feb. 6 to secure second place.

If Boerne were to win, a tie-breaker game would be planned for Thursday, Feb. 8 or Friday, Feb. 9, according to head coach Carrie Grona.

“We really have to focus on relaxing, having fun and coming in confident,” Grona said.

Full results from the Boerne game can be found in the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post Daily Update.

Canyon Lake 49, FHS 38

The Billies took another loss against Canyon Lake on Friday, Feb. 2.

Earlier in the season, the Billies lost to the Hawks, 47-38, and had trouble containing senior Reagan Heun, a North Dakota State signee.

“We again, did not shoot well from the outside,” Grona said. “We had to go man-to-man a few times and we don’t match up with them that way.”

Heun again scored 22 points, shooting above 60 percent across the board.

“We failed to know where she was and she had a high shooting percentage,” Grona said.
