FHS freshmen shut out Austin-Travis
Fredericksburg High School freshman football recovered from its Lampasas loss and shut out Austin-Travis, 28-0, on Sept. 1 to notch its first win of the season.
It was the Tucker Elliott show as the quarterback ran for scores of nine and two yards and threw for two 11-yard touchdown passes. The first was to Jarrett Beard and the second to Austin Schneider.
“We were much improved on both sides of the ball after a tough outing against Lampasas last week,” said Coach Adam Riley. “The offense was able to move the ball effectively all game, powered by a strong running game and the passing connection of Elliott to Beard, Wyatt Turner and Darien Robles. The offensive line did a great job of creating running lanes for our backs.”
On defense, the coach said Trent Kozielski, Hunter Metzger, Beard and Jack Gallagher contributed to the team’s win.
Gallagher played on the defensive line, Kozielski intercepted a pass and Beard forced a fumble that was recovered by Metzger.
“We still have a lot of room for improvement on both sides of the ball and will continue to get better as we prepare for Burnet,” Riley said.
Freshmen's next opponent will be Burnet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, in Burnet.
