Coach Tim Kaman wanted his team to be battle-ready when district starts, so he loaded the non-district schedule with tough competition.

That leads to weeks like this, when the Billies face back-to-back Class 5A programs.

The Fredericksburg High School Battlin’ Billies varsity boys’ basketball team split a pair of games against schools in the class above theirs, with a 63-45 win against the Uvalde Coyotes on Tuesday, Nov. 29, and a 57-44 loss to the Medina Valley Panthers on Monday, Dec. 5.

The hope is that the Billies (4-2) will make a quick turn around after the tough loss to Medina Valley and make a strong run in the Canyon Lake Tournament this weekend.

“It will be interesting how we handle the challenge,” Kaman said. “The bad thing is that our schedule gets increasingly more difficult. It will be interesting how we handle the challenge. We have great kids, so I am sure they will bounce back.”

FHS plays in the Canyon Lake Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10, at Canyon Lake High School.

The Billies are scheduled to play San Antonio Randolph at 9 a.m. and Somerset at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.

The team plays Wimberley at 9 a.m. and Boerne Champion at noon on Saturday.
