FHS boys' basketball falls to Wharton in third round

Fredericksburg High School varsity boys’ basketball season ended with a 58-50 loss to the Wharton Tigers in the Class 4A-Region IV quarterfinals Tuesday night in Gonzales.

Levi Esensee scored 21 points to led the Billies in his final game as a high schooler.

The Billies beat West Columbia, 61-51, in the area round to advance to the regional quarterfinals, where they faced the No. 23 Wharton Tigers on Tuesday night at Gonzales High School.

The Billies also beat the Austin Eastside Memorial Panthers, 68-51, in the Class 4A bi-district round last Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Marble Falls High School.

Wharton moves on to the Class 4A-Region IV Tournament, where they face Corpus Christi West Oso in the regional semifinals Friday in Kingsville.
