The Heritage track teams competed and won the TAPPS state championship Saturday, May 4, at Midway High School in Waco.
“The weather forced some changes to the schedule, having the kids compete in all their events on Saturday rather than the normal two-day event,” said Dr. Tami Given, Heritage School’s athletic director and head track coach. “The boys knew they had to establish a good lead coming out of field events as it would be a close race for the team title with the 25 teams in the field.”
The relay teams improved their times and places from regional placement plus Caden Bray’s third-place finish in the open 400 sealed the team championship.
The boys won with 107 points, followed by Summit Cedar Park with 93. The girls competed in a field of 26 teams, placing eighth with 38 points. Livy Jons placed sixth in discus and set a new personal best. Two of Heritage’s three relays set personal bests for the season with the mile relay placing third, dropping their time by 13 seconds. Ellie Faucheux improved her time in the 100 hurdles, placing second. She placed fourth in the 300 hurdles. “The coaching staff is extremely pleased with the progress this team has made not only in their physical development but also their mental and spiritual development,” Given said. “The kids had some adversity and stepped up to the challenge. We couldn’t be more proud of them. We had excellent team chemistry on and off the track which provided them with some great memories. Jonathan Hoermann completed his high school athletic career at Heritage with a first place in pole vault and being an integral part of our three relay teams, anchoring two of them.” “His high moral character, natural leadership and phenomenal work ethic impacted his teammates in a huge way,” Given added. “We will miss you Jonathan.”
