Community Ed set for sports camps


Sign-ups for Little Dribblers Basketball, Battlin’ Billies Football Camps and a Medicare explainer are among the Fredericksburg Independent School District Community Education programs set for the upcoming week.

Little Dribblers Basketball

Little Dribblers basketball is open to all girls in grades first through sixth.

Registration and evaluation is Thursday, Aug. 24

Evaluations are not required for first and second graders.

Evaluations are from 6-6:30 p.m. for third and fourth grade, and 6:30-7 p.m. for fifth and sixth grade.

Practices and games will be played on Thursdays, Sept. 7-Oct. 19 at the Fredericksburg High School gyms.

The cost is $40 which includes a T-shirt.


Battlin’ Billies

Pre-Season Football Camp

(Grades 7-8)

and Fish Camp (Grade 9)

Campers work on general agility and individual football positions, as well as practice both offensive and defensive positions, drills and techniques to improve football skills.

The football camps are hosted at FHS Stadium from 6-8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, July 31-Aug. 2.

FISD Coaches instruct the camp which costs $35 and includes a T-shirt.


Discover Panama:

The Land Between the Seas

This trip is scheduled for March 15-23, 2018.

Highlights include Gamboa Rainforest Resort, Panama Canal Cruise, Panama City, Embera Indigenous Village, Miraflores Locks, Anton Valley, Chitre, Rum Bodega and Playa Bonita.

The trip costs $3,179 per person and is double occupancy. An early booking fee of $100 is included in that price.

The cost includes round trip air from San Antonio International, a cancellation waiver and insurance of $280, hotel transfers, air taxes and fees, and 15 meals, including eight breakfasts, three lunches, and four dinners.

A slideshow presentation is set for 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the FISD Board Room.


Medicare - “What’s It All About?”

This class is for anyone approaching 65 years old or who recently turned 65,

Attendees can earn all about Medicare Parts A, B, C, D, supplements (medigaps), and how it all works.

Information is presented in an easy to understand and entertaining format.

The class is from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8 in FHS Room 235.

The instructor is Stephen Bradley, and costs $20.


Exploring iPhones, iPads,

Androids and Tablets

Those who come to the class can learn how to download apps, keep their apps organized, explore and manage settings, privacy, and ring tones.

Attendees can also learn how to personalize wallpaper and sounds, while searching the internet, checking email and sharing pictures and videos. Anyone coming to the class is asked to bring their device.

The class is Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 1-3.

Session III is for Androids, from 9-11 a.m.

Session IV is for Tablets, from 12:30-2 p.m.

The course is based in FHS Room 236 and Jordan Penick is the instructor.

Each session costs $30 and registration is limited to six per session.
