FHS GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
After winning their second District 28-4A championship in two years, the Fredericksburg High School varsity girls’ basketball team is moving full speed ahead. FHS beat Llano High School, 65-28, in the final game of the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 5 at home. “It was the explanation point on the season,” head coach Carrie Grona said. “It gave us a chance to refocus, work on some offensive and defensive principles and just relax.” The team, who also finished undefeated in district play, ends the regular season with a record of 29-7. The Texas Girls Coaches Association ranked team at No. 9. In the bi-district round, the Billies faced Salado late Tuesday, Feb. 12. Salado finished in fourth in District 27-4A and is 9-22 on the season. “We will need to be prepared to take care of the ball and if we can withstand that first three to fourminute surge, I think we can take care of business,” Grona said. Grona will face one of her close coaching friends Diane Konarik. “When that ball gets put up in the air, it’s all business but before and after, whatever the outcome, will probably look a little different than most games we play,” she said. “She does a great job with her young team and she isn’t going to be someone I want to run the score up on.” If the Billies are to win, they would face the winner of the Stafford-LaGrange game. “Both teams are pretty athletic and you see that has you get closer to Houston,” Grona said. “They run fast and jump high.” Full results and plans for upcoming games can be found in the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post Daily Update.
