FHS BOYS’ HOOPS

The Billies have clinched a playoff spot and a least a piece of the district pie.

All that remained as of Tuesday night was a game against the Boerne Greyhounds.

FHS beat Bandera, 59-35, on Friday, Feb. 8, to clinch part of the District 28-4A championship.

The Billies also won a game against Llano, 57-37, on Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Llano.

Results for Tuesday night’s road game against Boerne were not available as of press time.

FHS’ bi-district round opponent is to be determined.

The Billies didn’t get the start they wanted against Bandera, but a 21-point second quarter helped them pull away for the 59-35 victory.

Senior JT Watson scored 19 points, and junior Tucker Elliott had a strong night on both ends of the court to get 10 points and three steals.

FHS’ defense clogged Bandera’s passing lanes all night, combining for 16 steals off 24 deflections.

“Slow start but we picked it up defensively,” coach Tim Kaman said. “Tucker Elliott had a great game on both ends, getting steals and 10 points. Joel Jenschke also hounded the Bulldogs all night.”

The Billies also shot well from the field with a 44 percent average, including a 33 percent mark from the 3-point line.

“Just a great way for our seniors to go out on their last home game,” Kaman said. “If we continue to shoot well, the way we are playing defense really gives us a chance as we make our playoff push. We will see.”

Davis made three of six from downtown to provide FHS with a hot hand on offense.

“We really need him to shoot it like he did tonight,” Kaman said.

Senior post Ethan Williams had nine points, and junior post Jack Gallagher added six to give FHS sturdy paint presence.

FHS 57, Llano 37

FHS’ defense held the Yellowjackets to nine first-half points to alleviate some of the team’s offensive woes.

Junior Ryan Davis led the Billies with 11 points in their 57-37 win over Llano.

“We always seem to struggle at that gym, especially shooting the basketball,” Kaman said. “Same held true early as we could not really buy a basket. Fortunately, our defense created some layups for us and we went into halftime
