Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball has begun District 28-4A play.

The Billies hosted Bandera Friday, Sept. 27 and lost in five close sets, 25-19, 25-14, 18-25, 20-25, 15-13.

Earlier in the week, FHS beat Salado in three sets, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.

Texas Girls Coaches Association No. 7 ranked Wimberley traveled to FHS late Tuesday, Oct 1. Results can be found in the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post Daily Update.

Looking ahead, the Billies will travel to Boerne on Friday, Oct. 4 and return home Tuesday, Oct. 8 to host Canyon Lake.

FHS plays at 5 p.m. Friday in Boerne and at 6 p.m. at home Tuesday.

FHS lost their first District 28-4A game on Friday against Bandera in five close sets.

The Billies were without senior Jaci Spies, who exited the game against Salado with a concussion.

“We had a slow start as we had a new line-up due to injury,” Roemer said. “Bandera is really aggressive and served and attacked really well while we were making adjustments and getting used to new players in new spots on the court.”

In sets three and four, the Billies the team took control, forcing a set five.

“We settled down and became the aggressors and starting playing better,” Roemer said. “We got to set five and got ahead 13-9 but could not finish. It was a roller coaster.”

Roemer said his team is still young and learning the ropes of not only varsity matches but competing in a tough district.

“Six out of our nine players in our rotation are playing their first district match,” he said. “It would be easy to let the loss happen but we showed some pride and fought back to give ourselves a chance to win. I am proud that we showed heart getting back into the match.”
