Billies boys' track wins district, heads to area meet

Fredericksburg High School boys’ track and field swept its district meet and now faces the next round of competition.

The Billies won team titles in the junior varsity and varsity boys’ divisions during the District 28-4A track and field meet Wednesday and Thursday, April 5-6, at FHS Stadium.

“It was an amazing meet for both teams as many of the boys set personal records and season records,” coach Gilbert Renaud said.

FHS won its first varsity district title since 2014 by edging Boerne High 188-158.

The Billies came away with three gold medals in the meet, including a fifth top finish by Bryce Raders.

Cristian Hernandez won the district’s triple jump competition with a jump of 43 feet, and Fredericksburg’s 4x400-meter relay team of Edgar Monroy, Troy Kneese, Clayton Duecker and Sean Majors also won first.

Moving on to the 27/28-4A area track meet April 19 at Canyon Lake High School are the following athletes: Jordan Hartmann (100, 4x100 and 4x400), Drew McDonald (200, 4x200 and 4x100 alternate), Majors (400, long jump,  high jump and 4x400), Troy Kneese (400 and 4x400) Tyler Burns (4x100, 4x200 and long jump alternate), Caleb Wilkins (4x100 and 4x200 alternate), Tristan Sanchez (4x100, 4x200 alternate and 4x400), Will Sebera (4x100 alternate), Ian Kendrick (800 and 4x400 alternate), Cole Jenschke (800) and Jose De La Fuente (800).

Also competing will be Eloy Alvarez (1600 and 3200), Graham Hammond (1600 and 3200), Daniel Metzger (1600), Dominic Petsch (110 hurdles), Trevor Kozielski (300 hurdles), Duecker (long jump, 4x200 and 4x400 alternate), Hernandez (triple jump, 4x200, 4x100 alternate and 4x400 alternate), Brandon Kneese (high jump), Kagen Mazurek (discus), Ben Ferris (pole vault) and Raders (pole vault).
