Walter Louis Crenwelge, 77, of Doss, died Thursday, July 27, 2017, in Fredericksburg.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Doss, with the Rev. Mark A. Ward officiating.
Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Visitation was held at the church on Tuesday morning.
Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.
Crenwelge was born Oct. 7, 1939, in San Antonio, the son of Peter J. Crenwelge and Edna E. Strackbein Crenwelge. He married Nawona Gary on Dec. 23, 1961. She preceded him in death.
Crenwelge grew up attending school at Squaw Creek where he was taught by his mother. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School.
He was a graduate of Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University. Prior to that, he attended San Angelo College and Texas Lutheran College.
For several years, he taught school, and then worked for the U.S. Army in civil service. He lived and worked in Istanbul, Turkey, for a number of years.
Crenwelge is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lyrae and Charles Borders of Glasgow, Kentucky.
Memorials may be made St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers included Charles Borders, Don Braeutigam, Ben Braeutigam, Delbert Oehler, Bryan Oehler and Max Hartmann.
Honorary pallbearers were Harold Strackbein, Carlton Sieckmann, Temple Klett and Kermit Strackbein.
