S. Douglas Dickey
S. Douglas Dickey, 90, of San Antonio, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at Brookdale Hollywood Park in San Antonio.
Graveside services and interment were held Friday, Feb. 10, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Dickey was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Roscoe, but grew up at Hye and the surrounding Texas Hill Country. He married Julia Nebgen 67 years ago and she survives.
He was a 1944 graduate of Fredericksburg High School.
Dickey was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, served on Okinawa and attained rank of master sergeant.
After the war, Dickey transferred to the U.S. Air Force and served as first sergeant of the 657th Air Force Band where he played baritone and French horn.
Upon release from active military service in 1952, he became a career civil service accountant at Kelly Air Force Base.
After retiring in 1976, he and his wife moved to Stonewall. In 1985, they moved back to San Antonio to be closer to family.
In addition to his wife, Dickey is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Georgia Dickey of Pleasanton, and Kirk and Maria Dickey of Clermont, Florida; one daughter, Linda Dickey of San Antonio; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
