Robert (Bob) Menges, 88, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019, in Fort Worth.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Arlington Heights United Methodist Church in Fort Worth.
Menges was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, the son of Walter Menges Sr. and Sybilla Kinsey Menges. He married Carolyn Hillers in Rutherford, New Jersey on Aug. 28, 1954, and she survives.
Menges received a degree in agronomy from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in plant physiology from Rutgers University.
For 31 years, he was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture in Weslaco.
Upon retirement, Menges and his wife moved to Fredericksburg.
He participated in civic activities, sang with one of the local German choirs, worked with Habitat for Humanity and volunteered at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Menges is survived by one son, two daughters and spouses, including Mike and Cindy Menges, Karen and Kenneth Janak, and Nancy and Mike Russ; one grandson, and one sister, Helenanita Menges.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Walter Menges Jr. and Bill Menges.
