Mrs. Tommy Starks
Mrs. Tommy Starks, 85, nee H. Alice Pyka, of Mason, died Saturday, July 2, 2016.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason with the Rev. Michael Ensrude officiating. Dreu Bearden was the organist.
Interment followed in the Gooch Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Mason Funeral Home.
Mrs. Starks was born Oct. 12, 1930, the daughter of Louis Francis Pyka and Lillian Merz Pyka. She married Tommy Starks on May 29, 1957, and he survives.
She was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Fredericksburg and earned a degree in education from Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State University).
She taught elementary school in Kerrville for two years and then in Mason until she retired.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Starks is survived by one son and one daughter, including Thomas Ray Starks II and his wife, Cynthia, of Mason and Nancy Ann Aycock and her husband, Bill, of Corinth.
Survivors also include three grandchildren and one sister and brother-in-law, Cecile and W.R. Sobotik of Fredericksburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Herbert Pyka.
Pallbearers included Dylan Starks, Dr. Penny Ruthven, Bill Aycock, Glen Nebgen, Jerry Bearden and Kirby Groves.
Honorary pallbearers were John Thomas Aycock and Audrey Kristin Starks.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the Mason County Cancer Benefit.
