Kenton S. Ahrens Sr., 83, of Kerrville, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville with interment following at Garden of Memories.

Arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville where visitation was held Thursday evening.

Ahrens was born May 5, 1935, in Fredericksburg, the son of Edgar Ahrens and Melinda Striegler Ahrens. He married Lina Rankhorn on Aug. 21, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2005.

In his early years, Ahrens attended the White Oak School. He graduated from Tivy High School in Kerrville in 1954.

He attended Schreiner Institute in Kerrville and then, Texas A&M University, receiving a bachelor of agricultural science degree in 1957. While at TAMU, he played in the Aggie Band. He received his master’s degree in public education from Southwest Texas State University.

For over 30 years, Ahrens taught in the Kerrville Independent School District as a science teacher, retiring in 1990. During summers, he drove for the Kerrville Bus Company. He also ranched near Harper.

Ahrens is survived by one daughter, Dina Ahrens Campos and her husband, Miguel, of Kerrville; Kenton Ahrens Jr. of Colorado, and Sandra Dyer of Center Point, and three grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ahrens was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Ahrens.
