John Douglas Roberts
John Douglas Roberts, 67, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, died Wednesday, July 18, 2018.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at LaPaz-Graham Funeral Home, Las Cruces, New Mexico, with his step-brother, Max Scott, officiating.
Interment of the ashes in the Harper Community Cemetery in Harper is planned at a later date.
Roberts was born Jan. 9, 1951, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, the son of Douglas Roberts and Maxine Dodson Roberts. He married Mary Eileen Hopf on Dec. 31, 1977, in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and she survives.
After receiving a master’s degree from the University of New Mexico, Roberts held positions as school counselor and educational diagnostician in several school districts and state institutions, spending the majority of his working career as educational diagnostician in the Las Cruces Public Schools.
In addition to his wife, Roberts is survived by two sons, Matthew Ian Roberts of Durham, England, and Daniel Dean Roberts of Kent, Washington.
He is also survived by one sister, Linda Roberts and her spouse, Kerry Goolsby, of Marana, Arizona, and two step-brothers, Max Scott and his spouse, Carolyn, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and John Scott and spouse, Susan, of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Roberts was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Wills; father and step-mother, Douglas and Billie Roberts, and a stillborn son.
Memorials may be made to the Harper Community Cemetery.
