Jessie Mae Mitchell
Jessie Mae Mitchell, 97, died Monday, June 27, 2016.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mike Ensrude officiating.
Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Friday evening.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Houston, the daughter of Lloyd Cornelius and Annie Marie Windt Aldis. She married Charles H. Mitchell on Sept. 2, 1949. He preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1986.
A 1936 graduate of Reagan High School, her first job was with A&P Tea Company.
In 1955, she was hired as an executive secretary for Borden’s Creamery in the Dairy and Services Division. She retired in 1976.
The Mitchells moved to Fredericksburg in 1979 and became members of Zion Lutheran Church where she served as president of the WELCA as well as on the altar guild. She sang in the choir and was music director for vacation Bible school.
She is survived by three children and spouses, including Barbara and Craig Ashley of California, Wallace and Linda Mitchell of Houston and Alvia Ann Willman of Cedar Park.
Survivors also include 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Charles Ray Hirschfield.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to the charity of choice.
