Charles Larry Eckstein, 76, of Kerrville, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.

Graveside services and interment were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville.

Eckstein was born May 30, 1944, in Iraan, the son of Charlie and Ida Mae Eckstein. He married Ellen Jean Talbott in 1972, in Liberal, Missouri, and she survives.

Eckstein was a Tivy High School graduate and served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1967.

After military service, he returned to Kerrville and worked at various jobs over the years.

From 1981–2007, he worked in the food service department at the Kerrville VA Medical Center, retiring as a food service manager.

He was also a member of Garrett-Baker Post No. 13, American Legion.

Eckstein was a lineal descendent of Texas Ranger Peter J. Tatsch, was a member of the Former Texas Rangers Association, and actively volunteered for the Former Texas Rangers Foundation.

In addition to his wife, Eckstein is survived by one son, Charles Eckstein of Austin; one brother, Sherrell Eckstein of Kerrville, and sister, Angela Meador of Collierville, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to the Former Texas Rangers Foundation, MD Anderson Cancer Center, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, or a charity of choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
