James David (Jim) Brewer
James David (Jim) Brewer, 96, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2018.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at Rocky Creek Community Church with interment following in the Rocky Creek Community Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Crofts-Crow Funeral Home where visitation was held Wednesday evening, Sept. 5.
Brewer was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and grew up in Calipatria, California. He married Cloma Mae Chisum 72 years ago and she survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving until October 1945.
After the service, Brewer returned to California and eventually went to barber school and later owned and operated a barber shop until he and his wife moved to Johnson City in 1974.
He worked at LBJ Elementary school, and then at Pedernales Electric Cooperative for eight years before retiring in 1988.
The Brewers moved to Fredericksburg in 2003.
In addition to his wife, Brewer is survived by five children and spouses, including Duane Brewer, Aleta and Donald Davis, Kay and Leon Lange, Dorla and Manuel Ortega and Becky and Don Wurch; a foster-daughter, Marquita Battiest Jackson; six grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Brewer was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Thomas, and his daughter-in-law, Kathy Brewer.
