Montopolis is an indie chamber music group from Austin that performs the works of composer Justin Sherburn.

Their music folds country and folk idioms into modern classical arrangements with inventive instrumentation to create “stunning and transcendent” (Austin Chronicle) concerts.

Their programs are audience-engaging, multi-media events that combine live music with video and interactive storytelling, Reily explained.

Their most recent albums, “Music for Enchanted Rock” and “Yakona,” are themed around Texan ecological points of interest.

They are currently working on a new suite featuring Big Bend National Park.

“Montopolis will continue to be inspired by and draw attention to the natural wonders of our state, country and planet,” Reily said.

The Montopolis musicians include members of the Austin Symphony, Okkervil River, Tosca String Quartet and the Mood Illusion.

Though there are many contributors, the current touring ensemble includes pianist Justin Sherburn, violinist Leigh Mahoney, violist Alejandro Duque, cellist Sara Nelson and pedal steel guitarist Bob Hoffnar.

Montopolis founder Justin Sherburn is a composer, producer and musical director.

He received the Austin Critic’s Table Excellence in Composition Award for his work with Brent Baldwin and the Convergence vocal ensemble.

His scores for the films “Above All Else” and “Yakona” premiered at the SXSW film festival and continue to show at festivals across the nation.

His music can be heard on PBS programming and appears regularly on Austin radio station KUT.

Sherburn has composed for television, theater and dance performances and is the resident composer for Austin’s Troublepuppet Theater Company.

“I am very excited about this concert,” Reily said. “The music is really wonderful. Anyone who may be interested in this event can listen to samples of the composition on their website, montopolismusic.com.”

He said, “Hearing it played live with the added visual images and recordings should add up to a spectacular and unique evening. Anyone who may be interested in classical music or Enchanted Rock should attend this event.
