54th Harper Frontier Days to be celebrated Aug. 31-Sept. 1
The 54th annual Harper Frontier Days will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, at the Harper Community Park.
A weekend of activities is planned with the annual rodeo highlighting the action on Saturday night.
The Harper Community Park Association once again has The Crenwelge Auto Group as the title sponsor for the weekend.
Friday evening, Aug. 31, will see team roping competition at 7 p.m. at the park rodeo arena.
There will be a cash payout and the top five teams will rope in the Harper Frontier Days Rodeo on Saturday night.
An old-fashioned street dance outside under the stars will begin at 8 p.m. on Aug. 31. The Almost Patsy Cline Band will be performing, and a large crowd is expected.
The dance is being held outside this year as demolition/construction will have begun on the old community hall.
Food trucks will be serving up food and refreshments that will be available for purchase.
On Saturday morning, Sept. 1, a 5K Fun Run and Walk will take place with the start/finish line in the park.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by a kids’ run at 9:30 a.m.
A free kid fishing tournament gets underway at 9 a.m.
Water slides, dunking booths, 290 Market craft fair and museum opening will follow at 10 a.m.
Live music is also scheduled during the day.
A washer pitching contest begins at 11 a.m. with a $1,000 purse for the winning team.
The 42 tournament gets underway at 1 p.m.
New this year will be the addition of a prize drawing. Tickets will be two for $5 or four for $10.
It was noted that persons must be present to win.
The annual downtown parade will be held at 5 p.m.
Online registration is available on the park’s website. Entry forms are also available at the Harper Post Office or Dauna’s.
After the parade, a brisket and sausage dinner will be served in the park beginning at 6 p.m.
Harper’s Longhorn Café will once again be handling the cooking for this community event and park fundraiser.
A cake auction is set to begin at 7 p.m. and the rodeo produced by Lester Meier kicks off at 8 p.m.
All proceeds benefit the Harper Community Park Association.
