Billies place third in Navaro Tournament, prepare for six games in home battle
Small improvements led the Fredericksburg High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a third-place finish over the week at the Navarro Tournament.
The Billies went 4-1, defeating Leander Glenn, San Antonio Brooks Academy, El Paso Americas and Floresville. The Billies had their one loss to Lockhart.
Overall the Billies stand at 8-4 heading into a busy week.
Harper High School faced the Billies in a Gillespie County rivalry Tuesday evening.
Following Tuesday’s match-up, the Billies will spend the week preparing for their own home tournament, Dec. 7-9.
While head coach Carrie Grona knows her team can handle six games in three days, she also knows they will have to fight.
“We are going to have to push through when our legs don’t feel good,” head coach Grona said.
The Billies will face San Antonio NOVA, Smithville, Marble Falls, Maynard, El Paso Bowie and Blanco. Full results can be found in the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post Daily Update.
In their first tournament of the season, the Billies made key improvements Grona hopes carry on into the rest of the season.
