Harper FFA team qualifies for state
Members of the Harper FFA Chapter traveled to Huntsville on Friday, Dec. 1, to compete in Texas FFA’s Leadership Career Development Events.
Harper’s Greenhand Chapter Conducting Team qualified for the state competition by finishing first in one of the state’s 57 district competitions (Hill District FFA) and second in one of 10 area competitions (Area VII FFA).
More than 5,500 entries began the statewide tournament in 13 different events which reflect classroom instruction in basic leadership skills.
Harper FFA placed seventh overall in the Greenhand Chapter Conducting Contest.
Team members include Caroline Bacon, president; Abbi Sagraves, vice president; Rebekah Stracke, secretary; Kelan Bode, treasurer; Marcus Mader, reporter; Whitney Spaeth, sentinel; Kolby Marek, student advisor, and Irenee Longenbaugh and Ashley Talavera, committee chairmen.
Advisors for the Harper FFA are Felice and Jason Marek.
The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 119,000 active FFA members.
FFA programs teach skills in leadership, career development and personal growth. FFA gives students the opportunity to practically apply classroom knowledge to real-world experiences through local, state and national competitions.
Sam Houston State University has partnered with Texas FFA in hosting these competitions for more than 80 years.
