Live pari-mutuel horse racing returns July 2-3

An eight-day live pari-mutuel horse racing season gets underway at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Saturday and Sunday, July 2-3.

Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the two-day July Fourth Racing Festival will offer a full slate of quarter horse and thoroughbred racing as well as special races, trials and futurities.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and post time is 1 p.m., both days.

Admission to the grounds is $7 for adults, $5 for children six to 12 years of age and free for children five and under.

Reserved seats are $10 and box seats are $15.

Summer season passes are $60.

Advance tickets are available for purchase online by visiting and clicking on “tickets” for a secure online transaction.

After the July Fourth Racing Festival, the pari-mutuel season continues with the Night In Old Fredericksburg Race Meet on July 16-17, the Gillespie County Race Meet on Aug. 13-14 and the Gillespie County Fair Race Meet on Aug. 27-28.

To go along with the NIOF Race Meet, a new event, Sommerzeit Festival, will be held at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Saturday, July 16.
