'Start your accordions': Night In Old Fredericksburg to celebrate this Saturday
Night In Old Fredericksburg will be celebrated on Saturday, July 21, with musical entertainment, washers and dominoes, wiener dog races, goat roping, cookoffs and more at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.
The celebration is being held in conjunction with the Night In Old Fredericksburg Race Meet on Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22.
Both the races and the NIOF celebration are sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association.

Kicking off the musical entertainment on Saturday will be Chris Rybak from 6-9 p.m.
Arkey Blue and The Blue Cowboys will be on stage from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday.
Cookoffs featuring barbecue and chili are planned for Saturday. The Barbecue Cook-Off is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society, and rules can be found at www.lonestarbarbecue.com.
Categories include brisket, chicken, pork butt, pork ribs (spare) and jackpot beans.
Check in is at noon on Friday, and the awards ceremony will be at approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday. Entry fees are $120 for all meats or $35 per meat. The fee for the jackpot beans is $20. Also taking place at the fair grounds on Saturday will be a CASI Chili Cook-Off.

The first-ever Schnickelfritz Stakes will take place on Saturday at the fair grounds in conjunction with NIOF.
Cost to enter is $15 per canine, and proceeds benefit the Fredericksburg Dog Park Association. To enter and participate in this year’s races, call the Gillespie County Fair Grounds at 997-2359.
Registration and payment must be received no later than 3 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, July 19. Heats for wiener dogs will run after the horse races have concluded. Winners from each heat will race for the championship.
Owners will be required to show proof of the dog’s current vaccinations. Check-in time is 4:30 p.m. Preference will be given to the first 50 callers on a first come, first served basis for a maximum of 50 dogs.
A washer pitching tournament will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Sign-up begins at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $20 per team.
Also taking place on Saturday will be a “42” domino tournament in the Exhibition Hall.
Sign-up begins at 3:30 p.m. and teams will play from 4-6 p.m. There is no entry fee, and prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams.
The 2018 Gillespie Cabrito Shoot-Out goat roping event will also take place after the horse races Saturday evening.
Books open at 5:30 p.m. and will stay open through the first round. Cost to enter is $20 per team.
