St. Mary's School to host Maifest Friday
St. Mary’s Catholic School will host its annual Maifest beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 11.
A fried fish meal with all the trimmings, including hushpuppies, cole slaw, dessert, tea, lemonade and beer will be served from 5:30 p.m. until sold out.
Cost is $10 per plate.
Along with the musical entertainment will be the eighth grade farewell.
The Fredericksburg Filharmonic will perform German music, old favorites, waltzes and polkas beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Former St. Mary’s band teachers Carol and Wilburn Meier, Teresa Mazur, Larry Ottmers and Johnny Martinez are members of the group along with Todd Meier, Chrissy Stuewe, Heather Strosser, Rubye Hallford, E.W. Hallford, Rick Burgess and Charlotte Wilkinson.
The Meiers were band directors at St. Mary’s High School, and she was also the SMHS pep squad coach in the early 1960s.
All of the members of the Fredericksburg Filharmonic are current or former band and music teachers.
Mazur is the head band director at Llano Middle School, Todd Meier gives private lessons and Martinez is the band director at Junction High School.
Fredericksburg Filharmonic was formed in the late 1970s.
