Private schools will begin new scholastic year next week
Students from St. Mary’s Catholic School and Heritage School will return to the classroom next week.
Ahead of their first day, both have back-to-school events scheduled.
Students attending St. Mary’s Catholic School will head back to school on Thursday, Aug. 16.
Both Thursday, Aug. 16 and Friday, Aug. 17 will be half days.
St. Mary’s provides schooling for students in 3K through eighth grade. The school is expecting around 275 students for the year.
To prepare for the start of school, special events are planned.
A Meet the Teacher event is planned from 4-6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 at the school.
A Back-to-School Pep Rally and PTC and Student Council hot dog social will be held following the Meet the Teacher event.
John Mein is in his third year as principal at the school and Cristi Ahren is the assistant principal.
Classes are held from 7:55 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. with early bird hours from 7-7:55 a.m. and extended hours through 5:45 p.m.

Heritage School students will be returning to the classroom on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
School hours are from 8 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. for the Grammar School and 8 a.m.-3:20 p.m. for the Logic and Rhetoric School.
An estimated 165 students are expected in PreK-12th grades.
In preparation for the new school year, a Fall Fiesta will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20 at the Heritage School campus. The event will include a taco bar and an opportunity to meet teachers and other families.
Nancy Heirholzer is the head of school and Nora Brantley is the director of the Grammar School.
Registration is on-going and can be done between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. during the week.

Students at Ambleside School of Fredericksburg will return to class at their new location at 406 Post Oak Road.
Ambleside, which merged with Providence Hall, will host 107 students in grades PreK-12.
The first day of school is set for Wednesday, Sept. 5.
A Back-to-School Picnic and Meet the Teacher event will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Russ York is the head of school and Chris Acton is the head of the upper school.
Enrollment runs all year; however, York notes that there is a current waiting list for kindergarten. The kindergarten class size is limited to 12 students.
The school day runs from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The school will be hosting an official open house at the new campus on Saturday, Sept. 29.
