Oktoberfest Artist of the Year announced

Laurie Field Mahling, a local artist at Fredericksburg Art Guild, was chosen to be the 2018 Artist for Oktoberfest.

The 37th annual Oktoberfest will be held Friday through Sunday, Oct. 5-7, on Marktplatz, and is sponsored by the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance.

Mahling graduated from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota with a comprehensive visual arts degree, which allowed her to teach art K-12, which she did for 27 years.

In 2011, Mahling moved to Fredericksburg from Minnesota upon retirement.

She is currently a member of the Fredericksburg Art Guild and exhibits her work in the guild’s gallery, Artisan’s Gallery, Margarita Monkey, and the Urban Herbal Gallery.

Oktoberfest posters, weekend programs and the official volunteer T-shirt will have her art printed on them for the 37th annual Oktoberfest.
