Night parade, AfterGlow to ‘light up’ city Dec. 1
Holiday cheer will parade down Main Street followed by a chance to get holiday shopping done, when the Light the Night Christmas Parade and AfterGlow come to town.
The AfterGlow on Marktplatz will run from 3 p.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1. The Light the Night Christmas Parade, presented by H-E-B, begins at 6:30 p.m.
The parade will take place, no matter the weather, starting at the intersection of Crockett and Main streets, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Again this year, the first half-hour of the parade will be broadcast on CBS Austin (formerly KEYE).
The annual parade creates a festive atmosphere for holiday revelers, which is added to with all of Fredericksburg’s historic district buildings outlined in white lights. There also are 80 five-foot Christmas wreaths festooned with red bows adorning the city utility poles, and there is lighted garland strung across Main Street to add a nostalgic, small-town touch.
The entire parade route along Main between Washington and Edison streets is available for free seating on a first-come, first-serve basis. Attendees should bring folding chairs and blankets.
VIP tickets for bleacher seating are sold out.
Entries are still being taken for the parade, and this year for the first time, persons can submit their entry online by visiting www.lightthenightchristmasparade.com.
Deadline for parade entries is Wednesday, Nov. 22.
AfterGlow on Marktplatz
Christmas shopping, food, drink and more will be featured at the AfterGlow celebration on Marktplatz.
This family-friendly celebration, sponsored by the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce, will kick off at 3 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m. with holiday vendors, all of whom are non-profit organizations.
The groups will be on hand to sell Christmas-related items and share information about their respective missions.
Surrounded by the twinkling lights, the community Christmas tree filled with hand-crafted ornaments by local artisans and the 26-foot German Christmas Pyramid, AfterGlow will feature diverse foods, local wines and holiday shopping.
Following the conclusion of the parade, there will be free photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus at “Peppermint Platz.”
There is no charge to attend AfterGlow.
