Local FFA team finishes third, qualifies for international contest
Not only did a Fredericksburg FFA judging team finish third in the nation, but they were also invited to compete on the international level next June.
The Fredericksburg FFA Livestock Judging team finished third at the National FFA Livestock Judging Contest last week in Indianapolis, Indiana, during the 90th National FFA Convention.
Team members include Brant Bowers, Bryce Bowers, Lindsey Behrends and Reed Sultemeier.
“I am very proud of this group,” said Patrick Padgett, ag science teacher and livestock judging coach. “They have worked hard and deserve all the credit.”
“They have set the bar high for the younger livestock judging team members to strive for,” Padgett said
The team won the livestock test portion of the event and placed second in the sheep/goat division.
Pacing the team was Sultemeier who was named the fourth high individual overall.
As a result of their finish, the team has been invited to travel and compete at the Royal Highland Livestock Show in Edinburgh, Scotland, in June of 2018.
“Going to Scotland was a goal of ours,” Padgett said. “We knew we needed to be in the top three to do so, and we achieved our goal.”
