Harper Band to compete at state contest next week
Harper High School Band will make its 12th appearance at the University Interscholastic League State Marching Contest in San Antonio next week.
The band will step off at 7:42 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, in the Alamodome in San Antonio in the Class 2A preliminary round.
Should the band be ranked in the top seven, they will return to San Antonio on Tuesday morning for the finals where the state champions of Class 2A will be named at 11 a.m.
Harper earned the right to advance to the state contest after finishing third in the prelims and fourth in the finals at the UIL Area Contest on Saturday at Robinson High School, just outside Waco.
“There are excellent shows. There are superior shows. This is an exemplary show,” judge Rolando Molina wrote in his comments to the band.
He ended each category on his judge’s comments with the word Exemplary!
“Very well prepared,” judge Charles Cabrera wrote. “Congratulations.”
The band took its first step towards a repeat appearance at state when they earned unanimous first division Superior ratings at the UIL Region 29 Marching Contest in San Antonio on Oct. 21.
