Filing opens for county positions
Filing is open for the upcoming March 6, 2018, primary elections across Texas. Gillespie County has several positions that will be on the ballot, according to Mary Lynn Rusche, county clerk. Those include:
• County Judge
• District Clerk
• County Clerk
• County Treasurer
• County Surveyor
• County Commissioner, Pct. 2
• County Commissioner, Pct. 4
• Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1
• Constable, Pct. 1
• Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2
• Constable, Pct. 2
The ballot also will include four newly created positions by the Commissioner’s Court on Nov. 8:
• Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3
• Constable, Pct. 3
• Justice of the Peace, Pct. 4
• Constable, Pct. 4
Precinct position candidates must be registered voters from that district six months prior to Dec. 11 to be eligible to file, Rusche said.
“Candidates need to pick up a candidate packet at the county clerk’s office and file their Designation of Campaign Treasurer with the clerk before they can circulate a petition,” Rusche said. “Also, they must pay the filing fee with the political party chairman for the primary election or to the county judge to run as an independent for the general election.”
Filing with as a party candidate or as an independent candidate began Nov. 11 and will end at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11.

The Republican chair also will be at the Courthouse in the County Courtroom for filing from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11.
Rusche said candidates wishing to file as an independent may do so at the office of County Judge Mark Stroeher.
The county clerk’s office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
The office will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 23-24.
