Exhibitors win honors at Fort Worth Stock Show

Gillespie County exhibitors again distinguished themselves in the show ring when they won top honors and placings at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Jan. 18-Feb.

9. In the market steer show, Gillespie County 4-Her Mason Meier exhibited the Champion Hereford Steer. Taking Reserve Champion Senior Heifer Calf honors in the Junior Polled Hereford Heifer Show was 4-Her Layna Ottmers. Also in the heifer show, 4-Her Pecos Worrell won first in showmanship in the Junior Angus Heifer Show. Gillespie 4-Her Brylie Roeder exhibited the Champion Dorper Lamb in the Junior Wether Lamb Show. Fredericksburg FFA member Faith Geistweidt exhibited the Reserve Champion Dark OPB in the market hog show. In Fort Worth, 46 Gillespie County 4-Hers exhibited 77 entries, including 32 steers, nine lambs, four barrows, three goats, three heifers, two dairy cattle and 12 breeding sheep. Also, the senior Meats Judging Team, the Plant ID team and the Dairy Judging Team competed. Fredericksburg FFA members showed 11 market lambs, one market goat, nine market barrows, four market steers and one breeding heifer. From Harper, seven exhibitors showed 13 entries.

Open show

A group of Gillespie County exhibitors also competed in the open shows at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. In the Open Southdown Sheep Show, Taylor Fritz won Champion Southdown Ram, Reserve Champion Southdown Ram and Champion Southdown Ewe honors. Competing in the Open Sheep Show, Fritz captured Supreme Champion Ram and Reserve Supreme Champion Ewe honors. Taking Champion Rambouillet Ram honors in the Open Rambouillet Sheep Show was Kott Ranch of Fredericksburg.
