Commissioners OK airport projects, new jailer hire

Gillespie County Commissioners had a full plate during their regular Monday meeting as they prepare for budget hearings.

Gillespie County Airport Manager Tony Lombardi presented commissioners with seven requests from improvement projects to leasing hangar space.

The first item was to renew the agreement for emergency facilities and a land use between Texas A&M Forest Service for use of airport facilities, which commissioners approved.

The Routine Airport Maintenance Program grant agreement between the airport and the Texas Department of Transportation was brought to the table.

“This will get presented to us Aug. 30 following the approval of TxDOT,” Lombardi said.

Gillespie County Judge Mark Stroeher expressed confusion as to why it would be presented now for approval by the commissioners only to get presented again, following the approval from TxDOT officials.

“It doesn’t make sense to me to go about it this way, unless there is some sort of urgency,” Stroeher said. “We may have a question and we don’t want to be blindsided by any changes.”

Stroeher asked for the item to be tabled until a copy of the contract was presented. All commissioners agreed.
