Candidate filing opens for city, school elections


The City of Fredericksburg and Fredericksburg Independent School District will hold elections on Friday, May 1, and filing for the positions is open through Friday, Feb. 12.

Two seats on city council and two seats on the school board are up for election.

Fredericksburg City Council race

Candidate filing for the May 1 City of Fredericksburg general election to elect two council members is open through Friday, Feb. 12.

The seats of Polly Rickert and Bobby Watson are up for re-election.

Candidate packets are now available at the City Secretary’s office, at 126 West Main Street, from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Deadline to file an application for a place on the ballot will be 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.

Thursday, April 1, is the last day to register to vote.

Early voting will begin on Monday, April 19, and end on Tuesday, April 27. Extension days will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, April 20 and April 27.

Jan. 1 was the first day to submit an application for a ballot by mail or federal postcard application.

April 16 is the last day to pick up an application for a mail-in ballot. April 19 is the last day to receive the application by mail.

FISD board race

Two of seven seats on the Fredericksburg Independent School District board of trustees are up for election on Saturday, May 1.

Those seeking to run for a school board seat may pick up a candidate packet at the FISD Central Administration building, at 234 Friendship Lane.

Office hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday.

The final day to apply is Friday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m.

The first day of early voting by personal appearance is April 19, and the last day is April 27. The final day voters can apply for a ballot by mail (received, not postmarked) is April 20.

The seats held by Judge Edwards and Kelly DiCuffa are up for election.


Doss Consolidated Common School District is holding an election for two three-year terms on May 1.

Election terms to expire are those of the board vice president, currently held by Anna Sattler, and the board secretary, currently held by Andrea Chupik.

A Special Election will be held to fill two 2022 Election Cycle unexpired terms and one 2023 Election Cycle unexpired term.

The candidate filing period to file an application for a place on the ballot is Wednesday, Jan. 13, through Friday, Feb. 12.

Hours to file are 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4:40 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. Friday hours will be 8 a.m. to noon through Feb. 5. On Friday, Feb. 12, the hours are 8 a.m. to noon, and 1-5 p.m.

Applications can be picked up or requested by mail at the Gillespie County Tax Assessor’s office, 101 W. Main Street, Room 101, Fredericksburg, TX 78624.
