The Burg to mark third anniversary
Three years of bringing organized sports to Fredericksburg will be celebrated by The Burg Unified Recreational Group (The Burg) on Saturday, June 9.
Activities are planned from 9 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center at 1407 E. Main St.
The public is invited to enjoy dominos and table tennis tournaments for a $5 entry fee and a complimentary lunch provided by The Burg.
Organized in 2015 by local resident Justin Hill, The Burg works to bring the community together through recreational activities and fellowship.
The organization has grown to include educational, scholarship and mentorship programs for children and young people in the community in addition to organized sports teams, including basketball, soccer, dodgeball, volleyball and touch football.
“Through The Burg organization, members give back to our community the best way they can, whether through volunteerism, mentorship or financially,” Hill said. “By being actively involved in our city, we can make it the best place to live.”
Information on all of The Burg’s programs and opportunities for involvement will be available at the June 9 celebration.
“We want to empower a group of members who believe in building a better community together,” Hill said. “On our own, we are individuals, but together we are The Burg.”
