Accident claims life of South Carolina resident
A South Carolina resident died and another was injured in an accident early Wednesday morning in Fredericksburg.
Fredericksburg Police Department responded to the intersection of Main and Washington streets at 6:56 a.m.
Preliminary investigations show that a 2011 Kenworth tractor trailer, driven by Enrique Martinez, 56, of San Antonio, was traveling northbound on Washington Street and was attempting to make a left turn onto West Main Street, according to FPD.
A 2018 Kia Optima passenger car, driven by Brian Young, 51, of Leesville, South Carolina, was traveling eastbound on Main Street.
Witnesses reported that the tractor trailer was in the intersection turning left when the passenger vehicle failed to stop at a red light and drove under the trailer.
Young was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries. Police state that it is likely that Young suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle.
The passenger, Starla Cook, 50, also of Leesville, had to be extracted from the vehicle and was airlifted to San Antonio Methodist Hospital. Investigators said the passenger received non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the tractor trailer was alone and was uninjured.
The FPD is conducting the investigation.
