More COVID-19 cases surface in school district

Four cases of COVID-19 stemming from the same family were confirmed this week in the Fredericksburg Independent School District,  Supt. Dr. Jeffrey Brasher said Thursday.

Of the cases reported, one is from the Fredericksburg Elementary School, one is at the Fredericksburg Middle School and two are at the Fredericksburg Primary School.

Each of the students is asymptomatic and are isolating at home, Brasher said.

At this time, 40 other students and two teachers remain in quarantine.

To Brasher’s knowledge, none of them are showing symptoms.

Daily cleaning and sanitizing has taken place since the exposure (classrooms and common areas in use are cleaned daily, Monday-Friday).

In addition, the district took immediate steps upon notification and conducted an additional sanitizing process in the specific locations the individual was present.

A special board meeting to evaluate the situation will be called if a campus gets close to the 2% confirmed case threshold, Brasher said.

Brasher’s advice

Brasher encouraged everyone to keep following the guidelines and their washing hands.

“If we do this, we’ll continue to keep our staff, students and teachers safe, and we’ll continue to be able to have school,” Brasher said. “We can’t let up now. If we continue to do our part, students will be able to continue going to school and participating in extracurricular activities.”

The school district  reminded everyone of its COVID-19 protocols, which are below:

• Wear face coverings in common areas and when around others;

• Practice social distancing, even when wearing face coverings;

• Wash hands regularly and sanitize hands frequently in between washes; and

• Monitor daily for symptoms before entering a district facility, including temperature checking.

District website

FISD is now reporting its number of cases on the district’s website,

“We’re trying to be transparent with our community and parents,” Brasher said. “We want to continue to keep people updated.”

To view the cases, go to their website and look at the “FISD COVID-19 Active Case Management” tab on the bottom right-hand corner.
